Stop Asking

Almost everyone, including people who know everything and people who know nothing about cars, asks the same question when they hear about our dual (duel?) engine MRolla project: "How will you synchronize the engines?"

We're going to use the ground. Both engines will be attached to a drive train and wheels which will contact the Earth. The static friction at these contact points will not be overcome by the torque (lack thereof) of the engines. (The static friction will certainly be overcome at times by over-baking corners or driving into the weeds.) As the car moves the engines will go as fast as the Earth allows. Get it?

This weekend's progress was minor. Did a few more stripping tasks and got everything ready to haul the MR2 down next week to start cutting it.

Getting Choppy

Saturday was another productive day at Paul's garage. With only a couple things left to strip the Corolla looked light on the springs.

By the afternoon we were down to the the front end and roof. Ready to roll in the MR2 and start cutting into it.

Strong Start

The MRolla project is off to a great start. I half expected the engine to need a rebuild, or at least some major fuel system work. After 10 minutes to swap and distributor we had one of the nicest purring 4AGE engines we've dealt with. Compression tested at 158-160.

On to stripping ahead of schedule. There was much body damage, but the interior was in excellent condition and I expect some there will be some happy AE92 owners benifiting from our careful salvage.

All we have left before cutting is dropping the fuel tank and pulling the rear suspension.

I'm becoming more impressed with the AE92 GTS. I've noticed several improvements over the MR2 in the quality of interior materials and such. I half regret tearing into this one for the project, but I know it was a perfect donor with an exterior not worth restoring. It could never displace my enjoyment of the mid-rear configuration, but I have my eye out for a daily driver candidate.

I am glad to introduce the company and products of one of our AADA members, namely Mr Abdul Gakiem Fakier.

The companies name is xO sportscars.
The offices are located in South Africa.
